JANUARY IS ‘Walk Your Dog’ month and what better way to kick start your keep fit regime then getting out in the great outdoors.

We have picked out top walks in and around Stockton-on-Tees for you and your furbabies…

Tees Barrage
This relaxing walk by the River Tees will let you take in a mixture of Teesside’s biggest landmarks including the Infinity Bridge and Newport Bridge plus you may even spot a seal or two!

Fairy Dell
This tranquil location is a slice of the countryside without having to leave Middlesbrough, it is a haven for wildlife with its steeply wooded banks, becks, lakes, woodland and grassy glades.

Cowpen Bewley
This country park is the perfect place for a peaceful stroll with a fantastic lake for birdwatching plus if you can make it to the top you will also get an amazing panoramic view of Teesside.

Wynyard Woodland Park
Explore every corner of this wonderful country park from Thorpe Wood right up to Tilery Woods, this walkway has everything you could want – including that all important café!

Coatham Wood
Based on the edge of Long Newton village, this vast woodland is a mix of trees, ponds and meadows and full of wildlife. There are two waymarked routes so there’s something for everyone!
