Car Park Improvements

TWO UNUSED stairwells have been brought back to life for the first time in 15 years at Wellington Square.

After seeing an increase in footfall over the last two years, we wanted to improve access to the main car park and make it a safer place too.

Matt Boxall, Centre Manager, said: “There has been a 12% increase in footfall since 2021. With more economic growth expected those figures are going to get stronger so there needs to be more ways to access the car park.”

As well as upgrading the main stairwell at the car park, the two that have reopened have had improvements to combat anti-social behaviour.

Teesside-based Wells Commercial Refurbishment Services installed blue LED lighting, upcycled fire doors from Castlegate Shopping Centre and freshly painted the walls and staircases.

“We have put in protective blue LED lighting and added more Security patrols to reduce anti-social behaviour to make the car park a safer environment and leave visitors with a great impression of Stockton” added Matt.

Wells CRS director David Murphy said: “The stairwells have attracted problems over the years and we have now helped to make these a safer environment for the general public.

“There was an issue with the previous glass doors being smashed so we have upcycled the solid core fire doors from Castlegate Shopping Centre.  As well as upcycling we also installed long life LED fittings to cut down on electricity costs and help Wellington Square’s ESG mission” added David.
